Damaged Ulnar Nerve Question?
Hi, for over 2 years now, I have been afflicted with the sorest wrist. I’ve had everything you can imagine done to it, from physio therapy, massages etc. I even had electric shock treatment on it and they told me at the time that it was a damaged ulnar nerve that is extending itself into my wrist. This wrist is about 50% better than before, but it is still really painful. It will snap for no reason some times and send me through the roof with pain, I hate it. What should I do with this annoying wrist? Thanks folks!
See your health care provider as soon as possible (neurosurgeon or neurologist). Anyone who has persistent numbness, tingling, or weakness in an extremity should get a careful history and physical examination, including tests of reflexes, sensation, and muscle strength. Nerve conduction studies can help determine how bad the problem is and localize the site of a compression neuropathy. CT scans and magnetic resonance imaging may also be necessary.
The initial prescription is usually an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, etc.) and naproxen (naprosyn and Anaprox by prescription and Aleve–over-the-counter, often followed by some combination of splinting, physiotherapy, corticosteroid injections, and occupational therapy. Invasive measures, such as spinal surgery, are only a last resort.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.
